Course Description:
This seminar considers the possibility of something that can be called
comparative postcolonial theory by taking a substantive look at postcolonial
formations and their theorization across different parts of the world, from
the Caribbean to the African continent, from the Americas to New Zealand and
Australia, from South Asia to East Asia (including Taiwan), involving
Francophone, Anglophone, Hispanophone, and Sinophone articulations. We
will read works by such theorists as Franz Fanon, 丼ouard Glissant, Achille
Mbembe, Walter Mignolo, Linda Tuhiwai Smith, Antonio Benitez-Rojo, Partha
Chatterjee, and others, especially those emerging from the new field of
Sinophone studies.
